It's true. New York Jets congratulate fierce rivals New York Giants with full-page ad - NFL News
When the New York Giants defeated New England Patriots by 21-17 to lift the Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl XLVI, everyone was looking for a huge rant and tirade by New York Jets' head coach, Rex Ryan, on how his team is still better than the Giants.
On Wednesday, the New York Jets released a full-page advertisement in the New York Daily News to offer their congratulations to the Giants for their Super Bowl victory.
Wait!! What?
Yes, you heard it right.
The Jets and their head coach, Rex Ryan, better known for their big boasts on how they are a better team and the “big brother” in the Big Apple, have actually released a classy message to their fierce rivals.
This is the same Rex Ryan who earlier this year released a book in which he let everyone know in no uncertain terms on how his team is better than the Giants.
"We came to New York City to be the best team in the NFL, not just the best team in New York City," Ryan wrote in "Play Like You Mean It".
"And I have news for you: We are the better team. We're the big brother. ... It seems clear that right now we are the better team and we are going to remain the better team for the next 10 years. Whether you like it or not, those are the facts and that's what is going to happen."
It did not turn out like that though.
New York Jets were on their way to making the playoffs this year but imploded big time near the end of the season.
They lost their last three games of the regular season, including a huge 29-14 defeat to the Giants that ended their playoff hopes.
It seems that after the Giants’ Super Bowl win there is no doubt on who is the real big fish in the Big Apple and even Jets have accepted that.
This new face of being humble by the Jets is surprising.
However, it will just take the start of a new season and the rush to make the playoffs once more for this rivalry to spark back into life and provide more wonderful sound bites.
