It Tiz to defend her title in the Megahertz Stakes at Santa Anita
Mark Glatt trained Kentucky bred, It Tiz, 5-year-old daughter of Tiznow, will defend her lone win in the Megahertz Stakes last season, this year when she goes out against 5 other runners over 1 mile on turf at Santa Anita Park on 21 January, 2012.
Out of mare Star of the Woods by Woodman, It Tiz managed a single win out of five starts last season and that too in the $75,000 Megahertz Stakes.
She defeated Lilly Fa Pootz and Burg Berg in the 1 mile test, who finished second and third, respectively, while covering the mile in 1 minute and 34.83 seconds.
It Tiz rallied to upset at 8 to 1 last time around, and this time she will have to come up with a similar, but this time around David Flores has taken the call on Wild Mia in the year’s renewal.
Jockey Alonso Quinonez takes over the reins, as It Tiz looks to put the brakes on a five race losing streak, which started right after the Megahertz Stakes.
Owned by Allen Branch and Susan Branch, It Tiz experienced a heavy defeat by Cozi Rosie in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes at Santa Anita, when she finished an un-placed eighth on the day.
Staying at the same venue over the same surface, It Tiz conceded yet again in the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes to winner Malibu Pier at about 1 1/8 miles on 19 March, 2011.
It was her fifth start at Santa Anita, and this time in the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes.
A cut-back in distance from 1 1/8 miles to six and a half furlongs didn’t change much for It Tiz. She finished a dismal seventh under David Flores.
It Tiz has earned $260,183 so far from 5 wins, and 2 placed finishes out of 19 career starts.
Another 5-year-old mare, Wild Mia, who is participating in this year’s renewal, will pose a considerable threat to It Tiz’s chances of winning the Megahertz for the second time running.
The Florida bred will be under David Flores this time and she is exiting a second place finish in the Grade 3 Monrovia Handicap to winner Mizdirection.
