For example they were some who criticized people like Senator John Glenn (USMC Astronaut) or Sen McCain (Retired US Captain/Former POW captive)

  1. that is strange. I have never heard of that. I am both former marine, and now a firefighter.

Maybe I just dont understand the question.

  2. it is because most people don't have what it takes to serve our county and deep down inside they know this true. so the want to bash everyone who serves but realy inside they are saying i wish that was me

i am a marine for 8 years now and i have heard some yell out get a real job. i just laugh because i know if it came down to it they will never serve

  3. Where did you hear this?

I'm a veteran and I don't think that way, nor have I ever heard that.

  4. there is nothing more noble than being prepared to give your life to serve your country, If i could go back 10 years i'd sign up immediately.

I imagine in most cases those quick to say that it's not a proper job are people who have managed to get through life pushing a pen around their desk, serving only themselves, but at the same time can they really be proud of what they have achieved?

  5. no, unlike Policeman and Fireman, Military personnel are somewhat in a cocoon and society of their own; separated from a lot of headaches that normally come from a civilian job and life.

Military personnel, unless married or of much higher rank, usually live in barracks or an allowance is given to live off post, or there is govt. housing on post = (no rent to pay, or mortgage); food is provided or an allowance is given= (minimal to no grocery bills unless you choose to and toiletries and food is slightly cheaper if bought on post- not always); unless you are a complete moron, overweight, etc. there is no fear of loosing your job (there is still office politics in some areas); we get to travel around, so if perchance you dont like your "chain of command", happiness is knowing youre outta there in a year or so, or they offenders are.   Promotions are usually guarenteed provided you have done the requirements.  Higher education is available at a cheaper rate (but not always available depending on your job, mission, personnel schedules, etc. For families, there is day care is and it is usually very convenient and provided for in close proximity to your job.

These are just a few examples of how things are provided for and available to the military which in civilian life these can be headaches, struggles, not so convenient.

But then again, there are the dangers of military life, it can be inconvenient, time is spent away from family, its best to be single in the military- but people do raise families while serving and this can create problems within the family unit.  Military has a high rate of divorce, etc.

Policeman and Fireman are at a high risk of danger as well- but they are usually serving within their community, arent transferred around, raise families without the risk of being gone for months or a year with little to no notice...

Military life was nice...but like I said we are a society of our own.

  6. Excellent point!

The Dems are really ignorant when it comes to insulting their opponent. They don't realize how many people in the military are proud of their record of serving their country and they ALL take offense when the Dems say that it doesn't count.

Remember Kerry's statement about how if you aren't intelligent, you'll end up in Iraq? Excellent move, dork!

These people are making a big deal out of a 22-year-old DUI, but somehow, McCain is "milking" his experience as a POW because it was so long ago.

    Hilarious!

  7. My husband was in the AF for 21 yrs and I never heard that either...and he STILL works for the AF, as a civilian...and we STILL don't hear it. (living in a LARGE military area in FL)

YOU need to state YOUR sources...

  8. Military service is a 'real job' and qualifies you for some things but does not make you qualified for everything.

If you were in the MPs you would be qualified for police work

If you were a General you might be qualified to be president

If you were a Base Comptroller, you might be qualified to be the Comptroller of the City Water Department (a Colonel I knew did that)

If you were a procurement officer, you might qualify as a purchasing agent

If you were a pilot you might qualify for an Airline job, but it would not qualify you to be president.

  9. Its only the Liberals who think that way,A bunch of morons that have no respect for anyone who really cares about this country,God Bless All our Troops

  10. According to republicans. They just put people down & make up garbage. My neighbor is s republican & of course puts down the government workers. Well his wife teach in a public school. His son works for state roads. His daughter had a state job & complained constantly. Then she went to work around people who aren't democrats in a very competitve work place. She is no having fun. So I tune them out. I focus on what I want in my lfie. Peace, joy, love, harmony, fun, happiness, goodness. I am so thankful we have such good people who will help so many people. The beautiful families, Obama, Biden, Clinton, Pelosi...I know Pelosi's family & you just can not find people with more integrity. So they can get blamed for everything but once they can start working together for our country the healing will begin. Healing is not always easy cause the toxic has to be removed first so once the clean up is done we will use the word miraculous to describe what it happening but it is only putting energy in the right direction. Republicans wouldn't like it if dems didn't have all the things available for them. The libraries, fire, police etc. Ignore the whinners we have paid too much attention to them.

  11. I have heard that term and use it myself but never in a condescending manner.  I am proud to be a Soldier.  To me I  refer to a "real job"  as a boring mundane job that takes you soul.   I enjoy what I do it is much more than a "real job".

  12. It's those people like Code Pink who have never had their rights challenged or denied who think there is no need for the military. They tend to forget that freedom is not free (or else they never even thought of such a concept) and if anyone joins the military it is because they are not qualified for anything else. Most of the people where I work are ex-military and, to a person, they are best performers.

Those people who think that the military isn't a real job couldn't get past week one in basic training.

  13. It's true.  All military jobs are paid for by taxes, and the jobs are created in such a fashion that it takes very little mental agility.

That is why when you compare military jobs to, say, federal jobs.  The federal jobs always list the military equivalent as the lowest federal grade.

Sorry, the military only has one purpose to destroy things.

  14. i guess maybe i cant really answer this question, because i feel like serving in the military is the most important job of all.  Maybe people think that because "its your civil DUTY", not a job.  but i consider it a job, and it pisses me off that someone would say that to you.  ive had 4 cousins serve in iraq, and my brother in law is a police officer in Des Moines, Iowa.  Those would be the toughest jobs ever.  Id never do neither because i know im not strong enough too.

  15. To a Liberal, a REAL job is a 40 hour a week job making $45,000 a year. Not a 90-100hrs week job living on food stamps for the lower enlisted and $30-35,000 for junior officers with a 4 yr degree and  months if not years of advanced technical and specialty training (pilot, air defense officer, sub officer, tank commander, artillery officer, surface warfare officer, etc).

They have no concept of why someone would work so hard for so little.

  16. It is a shame, that the folks who never served their country have that opinion. I hate to say it's almost political... But as of late I'm begining to think it is. Luckily, there are some of us who know that veterans work harder, and rarely take time off. We're not whiners.

  17. Because you are a great american and they are jealous

  18. What ignorant people call real jobs are jobs where business economics play a role. You could call any government job not a real job because the government isn't going to fail if you or someone else perform(s) poorly. It's degrading and a distortion of the truth to call any work in the military not a real job - ignore these people, they probably never served their country in the first place and would do a bad job (no pun intended) if they were ever called to do so.
