It could come down to Noble’s Promise and Stunning Stag for the decider in Presque Isle Mile.
Entrants like 4-year-old colt Noble’s Promise and the 7-year-old gelding Stunning Stag would relish the distance provided to them in the $250,000 Presque Isle Mile, because these two are the most experienced runners in the field of 12 reeled in for the Presque
Isle Downs featured race.
The race will be held on 9 September, 2011, over a distance of 1 mile and the cut back in distance for the both of them, while Noble’s Price would be bidding for another win in the 6 furlong distance.
The Kenneth McPeek trained sprinter has run his last three races on similar distances, winning one, finishing 3rd and fifth in the next two.
While on the other hand, Stunning Stag has favoured the distance of 1 1/16 miles and once seven furlongs in his last three races.
This clearly gives them the advantage over 10 other opponents who will be shaping up to down the favourite to win the $250,000 event.
Stunning Stag is the son of Running Stag, out of Midday Fun by Ontario, and he holds commendable record for the year 2011. Winning once and finishing on the money twice out of three starts.
His first race of the season was boosted by a win in the Grade 3 Vigil over a distance of seven furlongs on 8 May, 2011, with the winning time of 1 minute and 22.15 seconds.
Trained by Sid Attard for owner Janice Attard, the older gelding Stunning Stag is coming off a second place finish in a tough race at Woodbine Park in the Grade 3 Seagram’s Cup over synthetic surface, losing narrowly to James Street.
On the other hand, a horse who loves to finish fifth, Noble’s Promise can be a handful when it comes to distances as long as 1 mile and in his four starts this season, the 4-year-old managed a single victory that too over a distance of 6 furlongs in the
Grade 3 Aristides Stakes at Churchill Downs dirt track.
McPeek informed that they were out of choices for Noble’s Promise and that there was nothing else left for him, he has gone on to win a Grade 1 at a distance 1 1/16 mile, looks as if he will give a good account for himself.
