Since they've elected to stay in the bush all these years, they've become much like the Palestinians who've indoctrinated their followers and it has become a cultural and traditional way of life.  Some parents want their kids to grow up and be a success.  This crowd wants them to grow up and be a mess.

They're actually having lots of desertions right now.  Sounds like Venezuela is going to quit supporting them.  They're on the ropes.  The Columbian government is finally getting the support it needs to fight this insurgency.  It might take another decade or two to totally wipe them out.  However, if they aren't given any room to regroup they may be relegated to just trying to survive in a few more years.  Rendered impotent.  Of course they'd try to lash out a few times.  Like a dying beast.  Even the Shining Path in Peru got destroyed when Fujimori was in power.
