You can start volunteering somewhere that you can transfer those skills to the workplace. You can also re-word your resume to translate the experience you have to the job that you are looking for.

By changing your attitude... Now do not get me wrong, I am not saying you have a bad attitude, but that you are looking at it from the wrong side.  

First, find out ways you can relate your past experience to your field of study.  

For Example, if you were a clerk at a fabric store, you can relate say... an English degree by saying things like:  Spend many hours working with people in the field by communicating in a concise manner to discover their needs, and placing their needs on paper, filling their needs with the requirements.  

Secondly, volunteering in the field is also a big help.  Volunteering with an organization which can use your particular field of expertise would also give you added help.  

It would help us to know what your field of study was to help you any more than these generalities.
