first of all, i've never touched a cigarette in my life. i am probably really out of shape, but the pain isnt under my rib cage, its not a cramp.

and to spudaust04, im not too thin, but i am very bony on my upper half, i'm not sure if i have low body fat, but my ribcage is always visable.

  1. It will go away gradually as you exercise more.

  2. you were probably breathing from your mouth and/or you have asthma

  3. that appened to me, and it doesn't nessesarily mean you have asthma. everyone gets that sharp pain when there running rally hard, but it goes away if your in shape(no offens) just try running more, and it'll go away quicker.

  4. Go see a doctor & stop smoking

  5. Maybe you've broken a rib.

  6. This is indicative of a poor VO2 max. You could also have been running too fast for your current ability level. Focus on your breathing when you run.

Are you experiencing stitches or lung pain? That'll be key to identify.

If it is your lung that hurts, you may be prone to spontaneous pneumothoraces (I am...and it sucks). Basically, a spontaneous pneumothroax is when part of your lung collapses in on itself. 9 times out of 10 it'll reinflate on its own, but if it doesn't it is an extremely painful experience.

Just take it easy and watch how you're feeling over the next few days.

  7. I call these things stitches. Its just a sign that youre out of shape. They'll go away as you get more into shape. :)

  8. Sounds like you are a little out of shape to me.

  9. it is perfectly normal. it is called a stitch and many great athletes get it too. check thic=s website out if you want to know more:

  10. i bet you're a smoker, if not, then remember that your lungs are trying to adjust too

  11. Are you particularly low in body fat?  Some people can experience an impingement of their muscle in the ribs. It might be worthwhile having it check out by your local medical pracitioner. Best of luck.

  12. Unfortunately, this is perfectly normal if you have poor aerobic fitness. I experience exactly the same when I am trying to get back into shape. If you start running consistently you should start feeling less and less pain until you will be able to breathe normally while running after about two weeks.

If there is no improvement after that long then you should definitely consult a sports doctor or some other kind of exercise specialist.
