It is a timely break in international competitions, says Denmark’s ace Peter Hoeg Gade
Denmark’s ace shuttler, Peter Hoeg Gade, says that a break of international tournaments comes on the right time as all players are fatigued because of a hectic schedule for the last one year. This break will help them to regain their strength and come back
stronger.
There is no major event until the opening week of March as the All England Premier Super Series will kick off from March 6, in Birmingham, England. In February, there is only one Grand Prix Event and the Thomas Cup Qualifying Round.
That’s why, all top players have got a timely break which will help them work on their physical conditions while focusing on training and will come back stronger in All England. Because of the fatigue, players desperately needed a break and they have finally
got it.
Peter Gade, who is currently number four in Men’s Singles world standings, has been playing tremendous badminton for the last 12 months. His hectic schedule affected his performance as he failed to deliver well in the opening two events of current year.
He lost in the first round of the Korea Open Premier Super Series that ended on January 8, in South Korea. In the following tournament, which was Maybank Malaysia Open Super Series, the fourth seeded Danish shuttler lost in the second round.
In both tournaments, he could not deliver his best performance because of fatigue. However, he is happy with the break as it will help him to become stronger before the next competition.
Peter Gade said, “I think many of the players are feeling the strain as we are all trying to earn as many qualifying points as we can for the Olympics.”
He further added, “The break has come at a perfect time for me personally and also for the rest of the players. Sometimes you just need to go away and comeback stronger.”
He has also indicated that he will play in a few tournaments before Olympic Games in order to remain physically fit for the mega event, which will be his last tournament as he has decided to take retirement from international badminton.
