It is all about the green jacket at the Masters
It is golf’s symbol of excellence that began in 1934. The American Horton Smith won the inaugural Masters tournament. It is the green jacket and the competition for it has seen the greatest players in the game, fashion magical moments.
This week, the Masters starts from Thursday where many are in pursuit of the green jacket. The defending champion Phil Mickelson surely knows what it is like to present the green jacket to the winner on a Sunday evening.
Augusta National is golf’s most familiar and breathe-taking venue. The setting in vision, that Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts had in mind, over three quarters of a century ago. This major championship has grown its importance with the towering Georgia
pines, as the colours, the smell and the sounds on the course are simply unique in nature.
The presentation ceremony simply defines perfection. We all again return this year to this national treasure which serves as the great reminder of renewal and hope that comes each spring with this championship.
Here we all gather with so many story lines and so many big names answering the moment. The conditions which will be the big story of the first day will not be easy for the players to card low rounds. The long par-4’s and the fast greens will certainly be
a tough task for all the players on the field.
It is certainly a great moment on the very first tee in which the two great legends hit the tee shots in the opening ceremony. The announcer on the tee is the Chairman of the course, William Porter Payne well known as Billy Payne holding the microphone and
announcing the names of golf’s two big giants.
Finally, Billy announces about the opening ceremony. Crowds gathered around on the first tee cheer and there is applause. It is always a special occasion when the opening ceremony includes players like 18-time major winner Jack Nicklaus and legend Arnold
Palmer. Both of these legends are the honoured starters of the tournament. These two big names need not much introduction.
Arnold Palmer has certainly dominated in his era. For over fifty years, he has symbolized the game of golf around the world and remains universally loved and embraced. Palmer is a great champion and even a greater person who has won the Masters four times.
The veteran steps on the tee with a driver in his hand to hit the first shot of the tournament.
With so many spectators around Palmer, he feels honoured to have so much support for him. A man who has so much love for the game, everyone still remembers his era when he used to completely dominate the golfing world. He hits the inaugural tee shot dead
straight and there are claps around him, which is truly a wonderful sight.
Nicklaus needs no introduction. He has acted like an ambassador for the sport and truly enjoyed playing in his era. The six-time Masters champion is also rated among the best. People still cherish the memories of 1986 where he won his sixth green jacket.
For many years, he has dominated the Masters like no one has ever done before. Jack is the owner of a remarkable six green jackets and still enjoys playing golf.
Once the legends finish hitting their tee shots, the Masters tournament begins. All the players are then on the course battling hard for four days to wear the green jacket on Sunday evening.
