It is forbidden in the US to dry laundry outdoors? Why?

no it is not illegal. at least not in ohio. some people don't hang their clothes out due to stuff in the air. kind of a pain to have to rewash.

what a silly statement, it is not forbidden.  It might be in your communities, if they have laws against clothes lines.  And most people don't like clothes covered in dirt, dust, bugs, etc.

and what do you do in the winter, when they freeze solid?

Its not forbidden in Texas. Sometimes during the summer we hang our clothes on a clothesline in our backyard. Its even better than a dryer because ur clothes dont wrinkle.

I've never heard that before. I know lots of people that still dry their laundry outside. I don't know where you heard it from but it might be one of those really old silly laws that nobody knows about/follows anymore. I found a site one time that listed all kinds of silly/stupid laws that some of the states in the U.S. had...now i want to go find it again! lol

Only under certain conditions. Some condo and upscale housing developments ban it. It looks bad.

It's only forbidden in some cookie-cutter developments where they are seen as unsightly and possibly detracting from the value of the homes near it.

It is not forbidden to hand your laundry outside in the U.S. unless it is a local law.

So if it is a local law, here is what you do. Drive some poles down around your laundry line, and stretch some black plastic between them or a tarp. Now that you have blocked your laundry line from sight...the local law no longer comes into play...unless they have some sort of other factor they use.

Where I live, they said that I had to plow under my garden because the smell of the tomato plants was disturbing the neighbors in the evening. So after they were done producing, I check the local law, and pulled up all the tomato plants and made one HUGE compost pile. Now the neighbors are complaining about that smell....but the law states that compost piles are ok. =)

Hang crazy things out there...let them wonder about it. =)

If this is true for a city area , it's probably to stop your clothes getting dirty from pollution.
