It is generally accepted that human evolution has ceased around 10,000 years ago, since cultural environments?

change too quickly for evolutionary adaptations to those environments to appear. Could evolution be how God arrived at creating human beings, but since Adam and Eve, things have become non-evolutionary, in keeping with the Bible?

  1. I'd be interested to find the general scientific group that accepts this.

  2. We have recent studies indicating ongoing evolution, even in humans. Since its a gradual change comparative to our lifetimes we wouldn't expect to see any drastic overnight changes but rather small adaptive things such as our digestive system adapting to changes in diet, etc... See more about recent evolution at links.

  3. In the last 10,000 years -

The average age people live has increased significantly

    People are stronger

    People are smarter

    I believe that constitutes change.

By the way, I do believe in God, but we have still evolved significantly over the last 10k years...

  4. It is generally accepted that evolution has not ceased for humans, in fact I can't think of a single example to support that it has ceased. Europeans developed resistance to many of the plague diseases that play havoc on the native americans, like small pox and bubonic plague.

  5. For a second I thought this was a serious question which promised some interesting discussion.  Then I saw the word God......

  6. According to what I've read evolution happened in leaps rather than gradually. Some catastrophic event happened the essentially changed our DNA. I have always wondered that if evolution were gradual it should be evidenced in the world today.

Now I am a christian and believe in the creation account. My point is that we still know so little about this world and ourselves that even scientifically speaking how can you stand pat. Science should not be dogmatic.

  7. What a convenient excuse for not seeing monkeys changing into humans.

  8. I don't think so. Of course, 10000 years is a rather short time for evolution when a generation of a species takes about 20 years, like in humans. But evolution cannot "cease" because the factors (mutation, selection) still apply. The selection process might have changed due to the conditions of civilization, but even that is not uncommon - changes in the environment change the selection process.

I think that the blood types in humans did evolve rather recently, but don't nail me down on this one.

  9. Nah,to adapt we will lose our mouth and digestive system,no need for food since it will run out,we will grow wings to fly and eliminate all vehicles,we will communicate telepathically to end cell phone use. I think you get the picture.

  10. No, it's not generally accepted that evolution ceased. Our immune system has radically changed to fit in with disease ridden urban environments.

  11. The question is not whether or not evolution has ceased, but rather whether or not it is now being superseded by technological advancements

  12. No, evolution has not stopped.  The raw material of evolution is genetic change, and that is always happening, simply because reproduction is an imperfect process.  Mutations and errors of copying lead to genetic change from parent to offspring, and this is absolutely inevitable, no matter how good the genetic self-correcting mechanisms are.

  13. That is by no means generally accepted.  I've never even heard that.

    We are always evolving.

For instance, we are on average 4-6 inches taller than we were 1000 years ago.

  14. Adam and Eve are supposed to be the FIRST two prototypes of human. period.

thus, the God of bible and evolution cannot co-exist.

Apart from the fact bible claims the Earth to be only 6k years old and not 10k

  15. Human evolution was slowed down enormously by the Agricultural Revolution  (which, by establishing settled communities, reduced the dependency on large brain size);  more or less stopped altogether by the First Industrial Revolution  (which removed any dependency on muscle power);  and thrown into full-speed reverse by the Second Industrial Revolution  (which created positive selection pressure *against* a brain any bigger than a peanut).

  16. "It is generally accepted that human evolution has ceased around 10,000 years ago"

    That is news to me.
