  1. I understand because I have tried wheat gluten (seiten) a ton of different ways and I just can't get use to it.

I do love tofu.  I like extra firm marinated in teriyaki sauce for 20 minutes and then baked in the sauce at 425 for 30 minutes or until brown.  Then you can mix it with stir fry veggies.  Baking it gives it a more "meaty" texture. Of course fried tofu dipped in a sweet chili soy sauce is amazing but not so healthy.

  2. if you grill it its great. But really don't eat one thing all the time, vary it.

Here go to this website for free and easy recipes - some have tofu, most don't. you can do the search.

  3. If you don't like it, don't sweat it... a vegetarian diet doesn't need any one "meat substitute".  A meat-eater doesn't sweat it if for some reason they don't like fish; they just eat other things.  Eat what you like.

  4. freeze it then thaw it again it changes the texture and makes it more 'meaty'

  5. They have different textures in tofu. Myself I like the extra firm because i fry it .Try the soft one . You may like it better. I didn't eat tofu for a long time because it just looked gross. Then I started working for a Korean woman. She showed me ways to enhance the taste. Take a bunch of green onions, chop finely, add 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup chopped jalapeno., 1 1sp. dark seasame oil. Let it mary for 1 day in the frig.    When you cook your tofu, cut into cubes, add a small amount of oil to pan and saute it with a small amount of you soy mixture. You'll never want it any other way.

  6. Yes and no.

I don't eat tofu I make because it always turns out tasting like a bad veggie version of calamari.

I do on occasion eat tofu from Kaze, a local Japanese restaurant, or Pei Wei, a Chinese chain, and its great.

Try ordering some from a restaurant (I prefer Japanese over Chinese) and see if its any better, but make sure you're eating EXTRA FIRM tofu.

  7. If it tasts like a "kitchen sponge" you don't know how to cook it yet. Tofu has no flavor of its own, It is like a sponge, so you have to add flavors by cooking it with other stuff and, or marinating it.

  8. I agree tofu is not for everyone.

  9. i love tofu!!!

    (when made properly)

  10. I've tried it in a few different ways but, I still cannot get used to it.  I just don't like the stuff-sorry

  11. it depends on how its prepared or what brand it is. try getting the extra firm tofu (i dont like the other kind...personally, i love the taste too but the texture is gross) or try frying it. the texture is firmer that way, and has more flavor.  and yes, it will take time to get used too (:

  12. figure out how to cook it right and it will be better, try making it into smallish cubes (1/2 inch max) maranading it over night, then cooking it.

  13. I too cannot eat tofu...When I chew on it the flavor is good, but the texture gives me a gagging reflex...and I never had that from any food that wasn't spoiled.

I do however love Tofutti cream cheese and sour cream.

Maybe someday I will have tofu that doesn't make me gag.  Until then it's morningstar farms ground all the way!!!  Take care.
