The veteran trainer has lashed out at his players, voicing his disdain after the defeat in the Copa del Rey.
Real Madrid head coach, Jose Mourinho, is clearly unhappy with the way his side played during their latest fixture. Los Blancos suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Celta Vigo in the knock out stages of the Copa del Rey.
According to Mourinho, it was a dismal performance by his players. He went on to claim that it is not his fault that the players from the Madrid locker room did not play well. He argued that every defeat is not a fault on the manager’s part.
The Special One opined that everyone has the right to make their own assessments and criticism coming his way may even be just. However, he asserted that one man should not always be the one shouldering all of the responsibility. He expressed that he is
willing to take the responsibility that falls on him.
The former Porto boss then pointed out that he is disappointing with the display of a few players. He stated that he does not expect such a performance by the players. However, he refused to comment on the performance of every player on an individual basis.
Mourinho did commend Raphael Varane on his show of football. He added that the defender played brilliantly and displayed that he is a true champion. Although the athlete was almost injured by the end of the match, he had a good day at work.
While addressing the press, the 49-year-old was quoted as saying:
"People are always entitled to their own opinion and have the right to criticise the coach. But perhaps it's not always the coach who shoulders all the responsibility... I took my responsibility and that's that. Some players have disappointed me, but you
cannot expect me to comment on the performance of individual players.”
"[Raphael] Varane was a true champion. He was injured toward the end, but still did more than some of the players who were fully fit."
Real Madrid still have the second leg to play against Celta Vigo which allows them the chance to redeem the loss that they have suffered in the first leg.
