The former Bari defender has gone on to underline that nothing comes easy in the UEFA Champions League, and remarked that Juventus need to push themselves.
Juventus slumped to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk, after hosting their first match in the Champions League since the 2009-10 season. The draw gives them a unique record to hold, however, not one that Juventus would be entirely proud of,
either. The draw has seen Juventus become the first side to draw on eight consecutive occasions.
The draw was more disappointing, given the fact that the Serie A Champions were unable to assert their authority on the match. For lengthy periods, it seemed like Juventus were the visitors, as they were unable to assert any kind of domination that home
sides usually do possess during their home ties. It was a tired and lethargic performance against Shakhtar Donetsk and it seemed like the side was still recovering from their excursions in the Serie A, as they faced AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 in the Serie A on Saturday.
There was no real pressure and even the stand in tactician of the side went on to state that he saw a “timid” Juventus facing the Ukrainian side, and called for a better performance in their upcoming matches.
The Donetsk side took the lead, stunning the Italian champions in process, and the road to salvation was led by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-Bonucci-c22064 as he struck an absolute cracker of a goal to save the team from any embarrassment they might have to face after the match.
However, Bonucci was pragmatic in his interview afterwards and responded by saying that it was definitely a point won from the game, and mentioned that they have to show more grit about themselves in Europe.
He remarked that nothing comes easy in the Champions League, and that you have to take what is yours in this tournament. He further went on to state:
“Considering the way the game was going, we certainly did well to get it back on track. We went on to the pitch a little too timid and allowed them to control the tempo. We cannot afford that, as nobody gives you an inch in the Champions League. Juve must
always control the game from the first to the last minute. When we attacked them, we put Shakhtar under a lot of pressure.”
Scoring the goal was an extra special moment for the Italian outfit as his son had come to the Juventus stadium for the first time.
