It occurs to me if you have a simple SDTV box of your own you can hook up to things

you don't need to rent additional equipment to maintain current wire-signal when companies strip away channels off the wire just a handful at a time (which they've already been doing in many states)

1. You pay for basic cable that works fine on several tvs

2. The channels start dissappearing anyway because your tv is 2 years old and isn't SDTV and the companies love to sell you a new tv every 3 years and rent new equipment to attach that gets even larger than the tv.

So does simple SDTV box you can OWN (for basics) instead of renting (for fancy) even exist?

well they exist if you want to buy it out of a trunk, but it is illegal and the cable company can tell if your using it, so i would suggest sticking with your channels
