Question:

It seems from reading answers on this board, Americans stills consider there to be a war in Iraq?

Is this correct? Does no one in the US properly define the happenings in Iraq as an occupation? The war lasted only a month or so. Why is it still considered a war in the US? Do Americans believe it sounds better to have been at war for 7 years rather than say they're occupying another country? I mean you could say policing too. That doesn't sound bad and it's correct. How about that?

  1. It's easier to get billions of dollars from the taxpayers if you call it a war. It's all about business and contractors anyway.

  2. The war did end after a month, and we are conducting an authorized police action that has lead to a freely elected democratic government. The fact that there are elements both foreign and domestic that want to destroy that fragile democracy is the reason we are needed and welcome in Iraq.

  3. Obviously average Americans (if YA! people are average Americans... that can be left up to you), don't really care about what our American service members are doing overseas, all they care about is saving our planet and checking their facebook.

  4. How about it a war until all our troops are home and safe! oh and it is that bad!

  5. Technically it is the continued war on terror, not the war in Iraq, but we know thats a load of hooey :P

Besides that, anyone who actually think we are still at war WITH Iraq is out of touch with reality or a troll.

It is certainly not on the level of a real war though, this is like a good day in WW2, or a bad season in Vietnam. Since when is looking at the progress of a war counting the bodies, vs counting the objectives achieved?

Jano: You are right, war is an armed conflict between nations.... NATIONS!!!! LOL

  6. Sorry, but there is.  The Iraq people are not ready to hold off the Taliban yet. And we do not want to leave to soon or Iran will sweep in. And our solders do not leave in defeat. So yes we need to be there.

  7. It's not a war? Holy c**p, now who do I believe? You? Them? Which ever it is, or what ever they call it makes no difference. Funding it does nothing but tack more onto the national debt, keeps our guys there, and smear our standing in the world.

Technically though, it is a war. Websters definition; war is an armed conflict between nations. Last time I looked, we were armed, so are they, and people are dying everyday.

  8. you are right the war has been over since 3 weeks after the invasion, and now the U.S is setting up a democratic government but at the same time there are forces trying to stop that from happening so that's why its called a war, its the U.S buying the new Iraqi government time to build its own forces to fight for themselves and support they're own government

i know nothing i just said got through to your America hating brain

  9. You banter?  Iraq anymore is not present. Now America is at war with the criminal rulers of Sumer, Babylonia and Assyria - Hammurabi I, Nabuhodonazzar II and Assarhaddon III.

  10. Strictly speaking, it's not a war... you are correct in that.  But it's not an occupation, either.

I guess the most technically correct term would be a peacekeeping operation.  However, I don't want to slur the good names of American, British, Australian, Georgian, etc. servicemembers with something reminiscent of the U.N. child prostitution rings.

  11. Hey, If you think we are there because poor iraqis cant take care of themselves, I'm sorry to burst your little bubble.

When have we been known to think about the well-being of others? This is a business and as such we have to protect "our" interest. Oil is a very strong motivation...
