It seems to hurt my baby when i pick him up...

Question

....when i lift him under his arms he cries. it seems like it hurts him but sometimes its the only way to move him or pick him up. Am i doing it wrong? hes 3 weeks old on sunday btw.

have you checked under his arms for any kind of swelling or anything? I know you don't want to hurt him but check it out. Softly touch around under his arms to see if you can feel anything that you think shouldn't be there. He may get fussy from touching him but if he freaks out I would take him to the doctor to have him checked out. Babies do cry when they are so little and being first time parents we tend to worry about every little thing. But unless you're picking him up with one arm, and I mean grabbing one of his little arms and pulling up like you would a toy, you should be fine. Hope everything checks out ok!

take him to the doctor, that is the only way to be sure that there is not something serious going on with him

It probably doesn't hurt him, but it might feel uncomfortable instead. At 3 weeks old, he still needs head support, so try picking him up in a laying position. One hand under the neck and the other under his buttocks.

At that age it shouldn't hurt him as long as you are also using your finger tips behind his neck/head to support his head too.
