It's snowing. Yes, in May. There is like this white fog-type thing that is floating above the road. What is it?

  1. It is not flurries.  It is sleet and soft snow.  It can freeze the roads and can create a problem

  2. Flurries or fog, it happens in Michigan in the winter, ive seen it before!

  3. that's is call flurries. flurries are those white floating from skies to road and it doesn't create much problem.

  4. Well, the fact that it is snowing it is true. The white fog-type thing that is floating over the road is not fog. In the summer, on a hot surface, when it rains lightly steam comes up out of the spot where the water was drizzled onto. It is just that the surface of the Earth is too hot to contain that small drop of rain or in your case snow. Since it is May, the ground is not frozen and is quite hot. (Usually the work of a low-pressure system coming into your area that brought cold temps after your warm temps plus bringing frozen precip or snow) We all know surfaces do not cool down rapidly, so once the hot surface (ground in this case) comes in contact with cold temps, the ground does not freeze right away, it might take a long time due to the time of the year. Anyways, once the snow hits the warm ground it is melted instantly and evaporates, thus showing the fog-like thing hovering off the ground.

  5. Fog...?  maybe sleet or a light rain?

  6. There are most likely three things it can be.

    1. Light fog - this could be the case unless you absolutely know it is a precipitation having to do with snow and other things.

    2. Small snow and flurries - this could also be the case if you see some kind of fog with little floating white pieces in it.

    3. Sleet/Hail - this could be if you know that the snow-looking things in the fog are strong when they hit things like rooftops.

Those are all I can think of on what you see.

    Sincerely, [Insert cool name here].
