  1. It may help to let us know what type of computer it is and the operating system. perhaps even your computer properties, such as RAM, Processor, etc.

If your running windows xp there are a few basic things I can help you improve a little bit.

Go to here http://www.filehippo.com/download_cclean...  and you will download a program called CCleaner.  it's a very handy app for removing temp files and even reparing your registry.   To remove temp files just click anaylise, when done click run cleaner.  for registry repair click registry and scan for issues.

Also when was the last time you defragged your hardrive? very simple but takes some time.  just go start>mycomputer.  Right click your C: and select properties.  on tools tab select defragment.  in the deframent screen make sure the c: is highlighted, don't worry about d:  click analyse,  if you have never done this before it should say needs defraged, but if it doesn't I would go ahead and do it, especially if you havn't done this before. so click defrag now.  this may take up to an hour for the process to complete.  This should be done every 2-3 months, depending on how many files you move around, delete, install.

You can also do this.  go to start>run.  in the box type msconfig.  in the general tab box you can choose normal startup, diagnostic, or selective.  But before choosing one of these.  Try this select the startup tab. and uncheck the programs and services that you do not want have start while your computer is starting up.   Check the program by reading description to make sure it is not a program that is necessary.  anything like msn, yahoo messenger, quicken, stuff like that can be unchecked.

Also shut down to many start up programs you may have running

Little video that can show you step by step in what to do

  3. There are a lot of hidden processes that start up behind the scenes so your computer can run properly - do you have Norton Antivirus, because that takes an especially long time to start....it may be normal...how long are you talking...so much has to do with your computers processing speed etcetera....

If you think you have an infection try an online scan

Kaspersky is the best one and works well..

just be patient - it takes a long time to download the virus definitions and do the scan...

Prior to doing an ONLINE SCAN it's a good idea to clean up all your temp files and internet history and cookies:

Use ATF Cleaner, Clean-up or Disk Cleanup to do this: (disk cleanup = program files> accessories> disk Cleanup)

ATF Cleaner (choose the option of 'select all')

    or CLEAN UP

All of the above programs work extremely well and are FREE
