  1. Yes, it's normal for it to take a good half hour or so. It actually takes longer every time a new version of Spybot comes out, as more trojans/malware get added to the detection engine each time.

  2. Yes it is normal for spybot because it is a memory hungry program. If you want a faster anti-spyware program get malwarebytes anti-malware 1.24 it has a quick scan mode.

  3. Depends on how many files you have and there size. Sometimes, mine runs for over an hour.

  4. Yes, scan depends on the size of the hard disk, the number of user accounts, and the scanning methodology.

For SpyBot S&Dm you could also choose full or mininal scan. The default is full scan--spyware, trojans, pups, etc. To do a minimal scan, open Spybot, then click Mode>>Advanced Mode. Then click Settings>>File Sets, then choose the filenames [*.sbi] to do a minimal scan.

When the Advanced Mode is enabled, click Search and Destroy button then choose File Sets, click the small down-arrow to select which scan you like: Select All, Minimal, Spyware check, Usage tracks, User defined. The full scan is done when you Select All. Minimal scan is done for a few file sets, etc.

I recommend that you do a full scan every other month, then just do a minimal scan once a week or spyware scan once daily, especially if you frequently visit sites known for malware.
