They are changing names because they CAN. There is no more moral reason left for them to change names, it is just a sign to say, "Well do what WE want to and no-one can stop us!"

Agreed. I think all governments generally do this kind of thing - cosmetic changes rather than dealing with real issues because it makes a political statement without really changing anything, if you know what I mean. Powerful interest and lobby groups who may be opposed to, say, new housing developments, for whatever reason, are not affected, while the masses are conned into thinking something is being done. Same goes for these endless "anti-poverty" campaigns, the creation of all these "working groups", committees, commissions, expensive conferences and summits, talkshops and so on.

I agree with Pitso - 9 Provinces are a waste of money, plus they don't seem to be working properly anyway.

I never supported the creation of nine provinces in the first place. That was a result of flawed negotiations in the 90s. I also really don't know what's the purpose of provinces. We should have national and local government. The provinces are just job creation entities.

This is a very valid observation and I agree with you. I am sure the cost of changing the names must be astronomical and the funds can be used for the upliftment of less privilaged comunities. I fail to understand how a name change will mean more for a person versus a house to stay in or as you correctly stated, a job to feed a family. Get the basics right and then look at less important issues.

They don't have money to spend to help the poor but coming election they will spend some,, just to get the vote
