It was important to win after losing third ODI, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869 – Cricket News Update
West Indies’ mystery spinner, Sunil Narine, has said that after a slip up against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 on Wednesday, a series clinching 24-run win in the fourth One Day International at Warner Park was necessary for his side.
"We wanted to win on Wednesday and seal the series, but we ended on the wrong end, so it was very important that we rebounded today and finish off the job," said Narine, who was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his spell of 10-1-20-2.
After winning the two-match T20 series and the opening two One Day Internationals of the five-match series against New Zealand, the men from Caribbean faltered miserably against the Kiwis in the third one-dayer, losing the encounter convincingly by 88 runs.
However, the Windies bounced back quickly from Wednesday’s crushing, scripting a series clinching 24-run victory last night. Once again it was an all-round effort from the Caribbean side. After the top order failed to provide the
side with a steady start – with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DR-Smith-c1401 (0) all returning to the dugout for only 20 runs on the board – the middle and lower order took the responsibility of taking the side to a respectable total of 264.
"There was a great deal of effort today. We had to dig deep to come up with this win, and that made it feel that much better. To win a series at home is special," said the man of the match.
Narine also had a word of praise for fellow pacer Tino Best, who kept striking right from the start of New Zealand’s innings to build pressure on the opposition batsmen, and returned with figures of 4 for 46 in his quota of 10 overs.
The Trinidadian is now looking forward to win the fifth and final one-dayer on Monday, to seal the series 4-1.
“We don't want to stop here. We want to come back on Monday and look for another victory,” said Narine. “Everyone knows that 4-1 would look a lot better than 3-2, so we will be going for that,” he added further.
