Massimo Moratti defends Inter’s decision to let go the Cameroonian striker and the Brazilian-born midfielder; explaining to his fans that there was no other option.
The Nerazzurri President has defended Inter Milan’s decision to sell Samuel Eto’o and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Motta-c34897.
The Cameroon international was offloaded to Russian side, Anzhi Makhachkala, in the summer, whereas the Italian midfielder switched to Paris Saint-Germain in the recent January transfer window.
Motta’s sale has been heavily criticised in the media as being a horrendous decision by the club, as no like-to-like signing was made. Even Claudio Ranieri, the Inter Milan head-coach, has admitted that his squad lacks depth and
quality to pursue their goals for the season.
However, the oil tycoon is defensive of the sales and has reiterated that he kept the club's best interest at heart. He also maintained that they were not expecting Motta’s exit, and did not want to take any gambles during the
winter transfer window.
While speaking to the Corriere della Sera, the Nerazzurri President said:
“I’m an Inter fan. If certain players were sold then it was because there were not the conditions in place to keep them. Nothing is done by chance or with superficiality, we always kept in mind the needs of that particular moment.”
When questioned whether the Inter board has made some mistakes along the way, the 66-year-old explained that it is easier to be critical of situations when we have the benefit of retrospection. He went further to say that running
a football club not always guarantees results, and at times the decisions you make tend to backfire.
“Football is not maths and strategies for a renewal, that seemed right, sometimes don’t deliver the results that you wanted.” He further commented.
Moratti was of the opinion that Inter had the good fortune of players adapting to the club fairly quickly. However, he also defended the new players by saying that patience needs to be exercised, and they should be given time to
make their mark in the squad.
