I have been swimming all of my life. I have been on competitive teams so i understand the importance of sprints in the water. I also have started to run for the pask week straight and started to really work on my core. Is there a like a 4 or 5 day workout that can outline specific stuff I should be doing. I asked my swim coach, nd wasnt very specific. He just said that i had the upper body strength to walk on, I just need some finer tuning. With that being said, anybody have any suggestions?

  1. Well, it depends on what team you're joining.  If it's a team with a varsity program, you won't make it.  Even DIII teams are filled with players who have tons of experience and ability.  If it's a club team, you'll make it regardless, so just ask them what to do.

If you want to know what makes a good water polo player, here's some basics.  Be able to swim A LOT.  Since yo're a swimmer, you should be fine, but expect to swim 2-3 miles each game.  You should know how to catch and throw with one hand, obviously.  You should have a good eggbeater kick.  The rest will come as you go along.
