It will be a fighting wicket: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kruger-van-Wyk-c1811 – Cricket News Update
Kruger van Wyk, New Zealand’s wicketkeeper, has stated that the team expects the pitches for their upcoming Test series against the West Indies in the Caribbean to live up to their reputations for being notoriously slow and low.
“It will be a fighting wicket. It's probably not going to be a wicket conducive to beautiful, flowing strokes or those sorts of things - it's going to be a war of attrition,” van Wyk predicted. Earlier, pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CS-Martin-c1295 had also referred to the pitch
as a variable “up-and-down” surface.
With regular wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Wyk, who has played just 3 Tests for the national side, will be donning the wicketkeeping gloves for New Zealand in the first Test of their 2-match series, due to begin today on
July 25 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. The match will go on until July 29, after which the second Test will be played from August 2 to 6 in Jamaica.
Prior to the actual series, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 played a tour match against the West Indies Cricket Board President's XI at the same ground where the first Test match is scheduled to be played.
The wicket proved difficult for batsmen to navigate, and with the exception of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KS-Williamson-c1813, Shivnarine
Chanderpaul, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BB-McCullum-c1129 being the only batsmen who managed to score half-centuries.
The bowlers, on the other hand, thrived in the conditions, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Wagner-c79182 picked up 3 for 65.
“If you look at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 played in the Caribbean earlier this year.
“I suspect the wicket will be what we're expecting,” he went on to predict. “It will be low and slow, will break up and will turn.”
