Former Australian fast bowler, Dennis Lillee, has predicted a lot of tough time for Zaheer Khan, saying that it will be very hard for the Indian pacer to recover from the ankle injury soon.
He reasoned that age-factor will the biggest hurdle in Zaheer’s way back to the field, elucidating that since the Indian seamer is not a young lad anymore, he will definitely take a lot time to regain his hundred percent fitness.
"I think Zaheer's injury happened due to stress. If he was 18 years old, his recovery would have been faster. But when a player suffers a fresh injury at 33, he naturally takes more time to get back into action," said Lillee who is currently in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, overseeing
a camp of young fast bowlers.
Zaheer has been the backbone of Indian bowling attack over the last few years. Emerging as India’s highest wicket-taker in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011, he played a key role in his team’s historic victory.
Yet, he found it difficult to keep the momentum going in the following competitions, as he participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with injury and subsequently missed the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 tour.
The left-arm pacer came to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 tour with massive expectations but the ankle injury did not allow him to play after the first day of the Lord’s Test. Following the intensity of the injury, he was ruled out of the tour and sent back home, where he
underwent an ankle surgery. According to Zaheer’s recent interview, he has been recovering well and will be back in action very soon.
Yet, Lille has some real doubts over Zaheer’s quick revival. When asked whether this is the possible end of Zaheer’s international career, he hesitated to reply in clear words, saying that it will depend on how the Maharashtra-born pacer fights with his
fitness problems.
"I'm not a doctor, so it's not possible for me to point out if his international career is all but over," added the 62-year-old former paceman who grabbed 355 wickets during his 70-Test-old career.
