It will be tough for the bowlers at Adelaide, says Mitchell Starc – Cricket News Update
Mitchell Starc, Australia’s left-arm fast bowler, believes that the pitch at the Adelaide Oval is heavily in favour of the batsmen and the fast bowlers will find it extremely hard to succeed in the second Test of the three-match series between Australia and South Africa, which commences from November 22.
The first match, at Brisbane, ended without a result, with batsmen from both the teams dominating the proceedings. The visitors posted a competitive total of 450 runs on the board in their first innings, before the Kangaroos surpassed the score easily, declaring their innings at 565 for the loss of just five wickets.
Starc thinks that the speedsters will face a tough time in the second Test as well because there is not much in the Adelaide pitch for them.
However, the 22-year-old cricketer, who picked up four wickets in the second innings of his last first-class match at Sydney against Victoria, feels that world-class bowlers should be able to pick up wickets on any surface.
“There's not too much life about the Adelaide wicket but in saying that there's not too much life in the SCG wicket and we managed to take a lot of wickets there in the last few days,” said the left-armer.
The New South Welshman understands that the Aussie bowlers will find it hard to deliver the goods at Adelaide but the lanky cricketer is confident about the Kangaroos’ bowling attack’s ability to win matches for their country.
South Africa have in their ranks some of the world’s best batsmen like Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers but Starc is of the view that Michael Clarke and company can still dismantle them.
He added, “Adelaide's going to be tough but if we get our plans in place and get our execution right there's no reason why we can't take 20 wickets.”
The young pacer himself is fighting for a place in the team for the second Test. Starc has been doing exceedingly well for the Baggy Greens in the limited-over formats recently but his Test match credentials are yet to be proved.
