It will be tough without Jorge Posada, says New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter
The New York Yankees ace shortstop and skipper Derek Jeter seems unhappy that team-mate catcher Jorge Posada is retiring as he is thinks it will be tough for the franchise to compete well in the next Major League Baseball season.
Derek Jeter said, “I know how much playing here meant to him. It’ll be tough without him around.”
Both Posada and Jeter shared a common fact of having started their career together some 16 years earlier. Later, GM Brian Cashman also said about Posada, “Sometimes there are rough patches, but you try to get through them. We obviously had a rough patch this year … but we all fought through it. Make a run at the Hall of Fame and added that last season’s controversy was “like a mosquito bite on a career of nothing but positives.”
Posada took retirement on Wednesday leaving a blistering 16 years career with a consistent .273 hitting average together with a total of 275 home-runs, 1065 RBIs and .374.
An emotional evening for Posada’s wife, kids and his team-mates when the 40-year-old Yankee spoke to the media calling it a day to his tremendous professional baseball career. He said, “Playing for the Yankees has been an honor, I could never have worn another uniform. It was just priceless. I will forever be a Yankee.”
Posada’s retirement also shocked many when they saw him on national TV speaking officially to the media and accepting that he had a poor last season in which he was hitting at .235 with 14 home-runs, 44 RBIs and .315 OBP playing almost 115 games.
Jorge also admitted the fact about his inner sense telling him to leave his catching position for someone else when he critically evaluated his past season’s performance.
Jeter along with the majority of Yankees’ players agrees that Posada’s absence will be felt in the next season. Posada, who has been a consistent performer in the roster for the many seasons is certainly admired by millions around the world.
Some say, Posada is leaving early from the game but according to several other experts, Posada has chosen the right time for his retirement after achieving every major glory in baseball including four World Series Championship titles.
