Italian Crespi Marco records maiden win on Challenge Tour at the Telenet Trophy in Belgium
Italian Crespi Marco pulled in a spectacular final round at the Telenet Trophy at the scenic Ravenstein Royal Golf Club of Belgium to land his first Challenge Tour title in his short career.
The 33-year-old Crespi has been leading the event for the last two rounds and was hoping to capitalise on his previous gains and win his maiden Challenge Tour title here in Belgium.
He said, “I worked hard for this win. I tried and I tried for many years and now it finally came and I'm really happy about that”.
Crespi was playing in the event through the sponsor’s invitation and will now have a full playing status on the secondary European Tour.
He added, “I built a lot of confidence in the last few years”.
The sturdy Italian was seen struggling with his short game at the start of the day and had to settle for an even-par front nine, falling one shot behind Carlos Aguilar.
He surged to the top of the leaderboard yet again, pulling in consecutive birdies at 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th.
Although he dropped a shot at the 17th, but by that time he was well ahead of the nearest contender to give in to the pressure over the final holes.
He carded another birdie on the final hole to finally land the title.
Crespi added, “I bogeyed the first but I tried to stay focussed, just play shot by shot, don’t look at the leaderboard and finally I started to play well on the back nine. I made four birdies in a row so when I saw the leaderboard after that on the 17th,
I breathed a huge sigh of relief”.
Crespi finished the event with an impressive aggregate score of 14-under, 270 at the Ravenstein Royal Golf Club of Belgium, in Tervuren outside Brussels successfully clearing the nearest contender Aguilar by three shots.
The raging Italian has now won € 25,600 for his first victory on the Challenge Tour and will now be hoping to surge to the top of the money list till the end of the current season to finally claim a spot in the mainstream European Tour.
He has already surged to number nine on the Challenge Tour rankings.
