Italian HW Help: L'indicative o il Conguintivo...?

also can you explain the diff bw indicativo and conguintivo!! GRazie mille..:)

we can use the indicative when we indicate a certain action.but we can use the congiuntive when we indicate a hope...the famous (congiuntivo esortativo) for Exhort a person

"è molto rinomato"

Main rule:

Indicativo is for: objectivness, certitude, consequence.

Congiuntivo is for: subjectiveness (supposition, feelings, doubt, hope, worry, opinion, etc), uncertainty, vagueness.

Examples.

- "il ristorante è rinomato" (that's a fact)

- "il cielo è nuvoloso, pioverà tra poco" (a clear consequence)

- "dov'è Luigi?... è in casa, ho appena parlato con lui al telefono" (certitude)

- "mi dicono che sia un buon ristorante" (that's a rumor)

- "che brutto tempo, che piova?" (doubt)

- "vorrei che piovesse" (a wish)

- "dov'è Luigi?... non lo so, che sia in casa?"  (a supposition)

You use the congiuntivo to express ideas.  For example: credo che (i think that) lei sia triste.  

When its a verb followed by che its congiuntivo.

When you use "se" then you use the congiuntivo imperfetto - se avessi molti soldi, comprerei una ferrari

It's used to convey possibility, doubt, or uncertainty.  I believe she may be sad, but thats just what i think. If i had alot of money, i would buy a ferrari.

Credo che piova, ma non so.

Penso che lui dorma

Also, remember that if the subjects are the same in both clause, use di+infinitive

penso di aver capito - i think i understood

penso di capire - i think i understand

crede di essere bella - she thinks shes pretty
