Italian Macerata looking for redemption in next home game – Men’s Volleyball
The thrilling action of 2012 CEV Champions League Prelims is scheduled to resume after a break of three weeks in January.
The preliminary round will enter the fifth leg and once again the volleyball fans will get to see the teams battling for victory. In this connection, the Italian men’s volleyball club team Lube Banca Marche Macerata is set to take on Fenerbahce Grundig Istanbul
of Turkey.
The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, January 5, 2012 at the Palasport Fontescodella in Macerata, Italy. More than 1,200 tickets have already been sold and local fans are on the tip of their toes to see their team in action with Turkish opponents.
Currently, the Italian team is enjoying its top form. The Italian hotshots scored 8 wins in a row in the national league. Likewise, their performance in the first four legs of the CEV Prelims has been exceptionally well. Macerata dropped only one match and
finished the fourth leg with a record of 3-1. Italians are one of the top contenders of Playoffs 12 in Pool E and need only 1 point to secure their ticket to the next crucial round.
This is going to be the second encounter between Italian Macerata and Turkish Fenerbahce in the preliminaries. The two teams came into a neck-to-neck fight in the second leg of the tournament.
Italian team travelled all the way to Istanbul in Turkey to play the match. The TVF Complex hosted the match, which spanned over five tiring sets. Turks had the competitive edge of playing under familiar conditions and they totally used it for their advantage.
The rowdy Turkish fans supported the local team and finally they won the match, 3-2.
Once again, the two sides are ready to rumble. Nevertheless, this time Italy has the edge. Turks will play under the tag of visiting team, while Macerata will enjoy the homely touch in the match. This is the best chance for Italian team to take revenge of
the previous defeat.
The mentor of Italian team Alberto Giuliani expressed great concern about the next match against Fenerbahce.
He stated, “We will do our best to bring it home because this would allow us to have a quiet journey to Russia for the last round of action with Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK. Fenerbahce is a good team and we know a tough game is coming up. However, I am confident
because we are enjoying a good moment and we come from a positive series of 10 matches including the last two in the Champions League.”
Macerata has great player-line and it is likely that they will not disappoint the local audience. The team-roster features former idol Ivan Miljkovic, who has a long-term relation with the team. He spent some 7 years in Macerata winning all international
and national trophies there.
Moreover, the rest of the team is also ready to give a winning performance in the next fixture. The fans are anxious to catch all the action, which is in store for them.
