Italian Serie A – First half review: Genoa versus Juventus (0-2)
The match kicked off in spicy fashion as Genoa adopted an aggressive approach. In the 14th minute of the encounter, Milos Krasic was brought down by Genoa’s left back Criscito. The referee spotted the offense and
rightly booked the Italian national who was indeed not happy with the decision of the referee. Therefore with the early yellow card booking the game proceeded.
In the 17th minute of the match, Juventus took the lead as they capitalized on their early dominance of the goal. It was Marchisio who let out a powerful drive from outside the Genoa penalty area. However, the Italian
nationals strike was deflected off Dainelli. The deflection took it towards the post and then the ball hit Eduardo, the Genoa goalkeeper on the head before trickling into the back of the net. It was really a bizarre goal which knocked the stuffing out of Genoa,
who looked completely distraught at the manner in which they conceded the goal which was finally attributed to Dainelli as an own goal.
Genoa were dealt another blow in the 22nd minute as Juventus rushed forward yet again. This time it was Krasic who took on Kakha Kaladze in Genoa’s defence. The Serbian winger had no trouble getting past the defender
and then he unleashed an accurate shot which Eduardo did get a hand to but the touch wasn’t enough to keep it out as Juventus went two goals up. Krasic was shown a yellow card by the referee as he took off his shirt in the post goal celebrations.
In the 26th minute, Genoa almost pulled back a goal as their left back Criscito let loose a brilliantly executed volley from a corner kick. The shot thumped against the bar and then went out for the Juventus goal
kick as the former Italian champions were let off the hook. In the 32nd minute, it was Kakha Kaladze who was cautioned by the referee with a yellow card as he fouled Iaquinta inside his teams own half. It was a bad foul which merited
a booking at least.
In the 37th minute of the first half, Krasic was in action yet again as he burst into life inside the Genoa penalty area, the Serbian crossed for Iaquinta who barely got a touch on the ball. His weak touch was not
enough to get the ball into the Genoa goal as the ball rolled out for a goal kick for the home side. It was another escape for Genoa who would’ve three goals down if Iaquinta had scored. In the 39th minute, Genoa almost netted a bizarre
goal of their own as Criscito’s long ball was misjudged by the Juventus defence as Storari; the Juventus goalkeeper palmed it out for a corner kick. However, Genoa couldn’t make the set piece count as the first half ended with Juventus in front by two goals.
