Italian Serie A Match Report: Inter Milan vs Bari: Eto’o and Milito double sinks Bari
Inter Milan were looking to take on Bari in the midweek matches that were being held in the Italian Serie A. Prior to the match Inter Milan were having a few problems of their own, specially with star striker Diego Milito, whose agent claimed that the player
was not happy at the club and did not wish to be a part of it, in the future.
The Inter coach, Rafa Benitez however was not concerned with the striker and his personal issues with the club. The forward had not scored in the opening three games and Beneitez felt that he could do better without him.
Milito was the star player on the Inter team that went on to win the Champions League, last season. The victory was only possible because of the two goals that the Argentine forward scored.
The Spanish manager when asked about the strikers form and performances this season, responded by saying: "Diego knows it's only a question of time.''
When the manager was asked about the comments his agent made in the papers, he was caught saying: "His agent's comments in the newspapers? Milito told me he was surprised at what he saw in the newspaper, because he last spoke with his agent a month ago''
Going into the game, Inter were level on points with Cesena, but Cesena had already failed to win their game, that took place prior to Inters giving, last season’s champions a clear chance to go on top if they managed to win on the night.
The match kicked off, with Bari catching Inter off guard. Sergio Almiron took a pop at the goal in the first minute of the match and was only denied by the word work. This indicated that nerves were coming into play during the game, for Inter as a result
of all the internal disagreements within the team.
Samuel Eto’o was one player who didn’t seem to be affected by what had happened as the player responded, by taking an attempt at the Bari goal with the first chance that he got. His effort however did not result in a goal, but still was very crucial in building
the team spirit for the home team.
As the match progressed, Inter started to get a firm foot in the game. Wesley Sneijder was the next player to take a shot at the goal. The Dutch midfielders right footed shot from outside the area was however hit to high. But this early pressure from the
home team was greatly being appreciated by the Inter fans, who were doing their best to help urge their team on.
The Inter team were however looking to really go at it in the night’s match. When a team is trying to go all out in a game, they usually tend to get a few bookings for their extra dedication. It was no different for Inter as Dejan Stankovic was the first
player to go into the book, for a late tackle on Vitali Kutuzov.
The first clear cut chance of the game fell into the match of Milito. The forward was played through by Esteban Cambiasso, however his right footed shot which was taken from the edge of the box just sailed over the ball. This attempt by Milito helped Inter
launch a flurry of attacks on their opposition on the night.
The next player to try and test the Bari goal was Goran Pandev. The wingers shot just missed the goal by inches. None the less this attacking threat by Inter proved to be lethal as two minutes later in the twenty seventh minute, the reigning Italian champions
got the much needed breakthrough.
