Italian Serie A Match Report: Inter Milan vs Bari: Eto’o and Milito double sinks Bari - Part 3
The double goal scoring hero was substituted on the seventieth minute mark and Sulley Ali Muntari was brought on to replace him. This change was a tactical one, as Eto’o had completed his task on the night and was now going to be given a rest before the
teams next game.
With Eto’o gone, Inter seemed to have lost a whole dimension to their play. Bari started to create chance after chance out of nothing. This was rather peculiar to watch as the player that was taken off was a forward and had very little or no part in helping
out with the defence at the back. However this also proved to everyone just how valuable Eto’o is to whatever team he plays for. The striker was brought to the San Siro from Barcelona. The forward had become a part of the first team ever since his arrival
at the club, while his replacement at the Camp Nou, Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed miserably. Barcelona after watching the players performances over the last season, were forced to regret the decision they made when they sold the player.
None the less, the match progressed without the star forward and late on in the half, Inter started to finally pile some pressure on the Bari side. After some pinball football between the two teams, Inter had the fourth goal of the game.
Diego Milito who was part of all the controversies prior to the game, scored his second and the teams fourth goal on the night. Dejan Stankovic did brilliantly to carve his way through the Bari midfield and defence and then played a brilliant through ball
for Milito who ran onto the ball in the Bari half and curled a ball with his right foot into the top left corner of the Bari goal.
Inter didn’t seem to be satisfied with the four goal cushion that they had in the game. In the dying minutes of the game the team went forward and tried to scored a fifth.
Muntari came close with a left footed shot from outside the box in the eighty eight minute mark. The ball was headed into the goal, but was denied by a last second save from the Bari keeper.
The last chance of the game fell to the feet of Goran Pandev. The player received a brilliant pass off of Milito outside the Bari half and with just minutes to go, the player took an audacious shot at goal. The ball went sky high as the referee blew the
whistle to end the match.
Inter ended the game with four goals being awarded to their name, despite the fact that two of those goals came as a result of penalties, the team looked as strong as it has ever been. At the end of the ninety minutes, the possession read fifty percent for
both the teams, but it was the home side who made far better use of their time on the ball. Inter had a total of eighteen shots at goal, compared to the ten from the Bari side.
The victory also saw inter take a one point lead at the top of the La Liga table as Cesena their closest rivals tasted defeat earlier on in the night.
