Italian Serie A Preview: AC Milan – Inter Milan (Part 1)
Serie A this weekend will have some truly spectacular matches for the spectators. The famous Milan derby will be played at San Siro while Roma and Juventus will go head-to-head in yet another mouth watering game.
Derby della Madonnina or more commonly known as the Milan Derby is one of the most anticipated football matches in the world. The two clubs support a fierce rivalry that dates back to 1908 when the parent club split into two clubs. The
two clubs have had their dominant eras through the decades and it showed on derby results. Historically, when one Milanese club goes through a dominant phase, the cousin suffers with mediocrity; as has been happening since the Calciopoli scandal of 2006.
The two clubs have played 174 Serie A derbies till date and AC Milan leads the winning tally with 64 victories while Nerazzuri have 58 victories. Inter Milan have been the dominant Milanese side ever since the Calciopoli scandal. From
eight matches that have been played between the two sides since 2006, Inter have recorded victories in six games.
The two sides will fight for the bragging right of the Italian capital when they lock horns on Sunday.
Rossoneri aiming to soar higher
Massimiliano Allegri will be delighted to see his side go atop the Serie A rankings with a 3 – 1 win Palermo on Wednesday. The quality of players that was added over the summer is now showing. Even though Milan lead the Calcio charts,
their performances have not been Champions like, indeed the club has taken advantage of the slip-ups made by the other Scudetto contenders.
Owing much to the highly competitive nature of Serie A, the top six sides are separated by exactly six points. A single bad at this point in time has the tendency to disrupt the Rossoneri momentum.
The Derby could not have come at a better time for Allegri’s side. Nerazzuri are on a slide with a terrible injury crisis while Rossoneri are on a rise following years of mediocrity. Also, a win against arch rivals will catalyse the Rossoneri
ambition and thus, this game is more than just three points for the former European and Italian champions.
Unlucky Benitez
Nerazzuri are a complete mess at this point in time. With as many as eight first team regulars on the treatment table, things aren’t looking very bright for the reigning Italian and European champions – one can certainly feel for poor
Rafa. The amount of football top footballers play in this era has been a hot topic for quite some time. The exhaustive football calendars are now finally taking a toll on the Nerazzuri stars.
Benitez’s side has recorded just a single victory from their last four league games and have drawn their last two games against Brescia and Lecce, which happen to be two relegation candidates. The ruthlessly efficient Inter Milan of last
season has gone AWOL instead a toothless Nerazzuri have taken to the pitch this campaign.
With AC Milan frontline brimming with quality, albeit misfiring at the moment, Samuel Eto’o and Co. must score in this game if they are to leave San Siro with any points. Benitez’s men will look to take inspiration from their recent Derby
records.
