Italian boss, Carlo Ancelotti, wishes to remain at Chelsea but claims the decision is not his to make
After the 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the English Premier League clash yesterday, May 8th, which undoubtedly ruled Chelsea out of the title race, Chelsea’s boss, Carlo Ancelotti, revealed his desire to remain at the club.
This has been the worst season for the Blues since Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich, took over, because of which Ancelotti is expected to face the axe.
Despite delivering the domestic double last season, the English Premier League and the FA Cup, Ancelotti failed to recreate his success this season.
The Blues suffered a mid-season slump, said to be their worst in over 15 years, as they crashed out of the cup competitions and gave up their spot at the top of the English Premier League table.
In March, Chelsea was 15 points behind league leaders, Manchester United, at fifth place on the table, fighting for a place in the top three.
However, in just under two months, Ancelotti led his side to second place, just three points behind the Red Devils, with a shot at retaining the title.
A victory at Old Trafford would have ensured the Blues reclaiming their place as league leaders.
Unfortunately, the London side was unable to secure a win or even manage a draw. With United taking the lead early on, Chelsea was left chasing throughout the game.
A consolation goal from midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097, did little to help as the Blues stumbled to a 2-1 loss.
This leaves them six points behind Manchester United, looking set to claim their 19th league title.
Even before yesterday’s clash, there had been countless rumours claiming the Italian manager was facing a Stamford Bridge exit at the end of the season.
The likes of Jose Mourinho, Guus Hiddink, Marcello Lippi, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s manager.
Ancelotti maintained his cool through all the speculation and focused on guiding the Blues back to the top three on the Premier League table.
While he has managed to do that, Chelsea is now appearing to finish at second place and as a result, qualify for Champions League football next season.
Some believe that is not enough for Abramovich so Ancelotti may very well have spent his last season at the London club.
The Chelsea boss admitted his job was not secure in light of an extremely disappointing trophy-less season.
However, the Italian insisted he wished to honour his contract and remain with the Blues, who he felt could do much better next season.
He also said that the decision of whether or not he would be managing Chelsea for another season lies entirely with the club.
While speaking to reporters, Ancelotti said, “I have another year on my contract and I would like to stay but it is the decision of the club. The club will take a decision at the end of the season, we have two more games, two more weeks and we wait and see.
We will arrange a meeting after the end of the season”.
While Ancelotti has revealed his desire to stay at the London club for next season, the former AC Milan boss hinted at a return to Serie A.
With Roma sacking Claudio Ranieri and the uncertainty surrounding Ancelotti’s job, he has been linked with taking over the Italian outfit at the end of the season.
The Italian manager said, “Italy is my country and one day I will come back to Italy as I love my country but in the last two years I have found a fantastic atmosphere in football, a fantastic country, and I respect the people. There is no violence in the
stadium, the stadiums are full and I would like to stay here for these reasons”.
It must be noted that he has not completely ruled out a move to Italy, most likely http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603, but for now, he intends to remain at Chelsea.
The decision is completely up to Roman Abramovich and judging from the past, it seems likely the Italian will be parting ways with the club at the end of this campaign.
