Hospitality assignment:

Have to choose a country, then work out it's impact on Australian cuisine.

Don't give it to me in a nutshell... I need a nice long essay if I'm going to pass... *sigh*

  1. I have no idea how Italian food affects Aussie food, is  there an influx of cooking shows/restaurants  with Chefs who make italian food?

If you want to pass, choose Australia as your country, and show the impact of all the fresh seafood and ingredients native to Australia, and tell why those ingredients change the way Aussies eat...   If you think about it the food that is readily available in Australia, will change any country's dish, because they must adapt to the ingredients at hand.  You can't get the same fish in Australia, that you would get in the Mediterranean Sea,  and Italian wild boar probably wont taste quite like the wild boar in Australia.

This is a much broader topic, and you can use examples of how the different Cuisines that came together to make Aussie food have had to adapt their techniques and recipes to the food and ingredients at hand.

From your question it looks as if you want someone to do your homework for you....  I think you may be dreaming if that is the case.  But I doubt anyone in your class will use this idea, and it will probably take your teacher by surprise.

    Good luck on your paper

  2. I am Australian, lived in Brisbane, Melbourne Sydney,

The Italian influence is HUGE, Especially Melbourne, google LYGON STREET.  I think it has influenced the Australian cuisine to the point that most of us with half a brain have pasta at least once a week, maybe twice.  Even the people who don't know it, they are having Lasagna or Spaghetti Bolognaise, many of the rest of us like my family are buying gnocchi or ravioli or whatever from the supermarket as fresh pasta, and nearly all of us probably have dried pasta in our pantry at home.  Even if we don't eat it much, there is often a pasta salad at a BBQ gathering.  Pasta varieties, dried at least surpass anything like rice in the supermarket shelves.  Most Australians, (and you can kick my butt if I am wrong) are quite happy to eat Pasta, Pizza and the like at any restaurant if we are not sure of what else to order, or if we are feeling like comfort food or we just want to guarantee the kids are going to eat something other than Chips/french fries and chicken nuggets or 'bad kiddy food'  I think if you google numbers, Australia has a huge Italian ex-pat and Greek ex-pat or migrant community.  Honestly, as a 1st generation Lithuanian/Scottish with my kids being Lith/Scot/Greek/Dutch decent, I feel Foodilly Blessed!  Garlic Burps all around
