i am a lover of opera. i liv ein nyc and i go to the opera on a regular bases. i have enjoy italian and tryed to like german opera aswell. i have seen and hear many opera. me being italain american isn't a factor inmy prefirence to the "bel conto" of the italain opera. i like italian opera better then german. ihave hear the german opera is meant the "master" to grow by - speaking of a arcane spiritual master a super human. this opera is not meant for enjoyment but for growth of the masters-- my question is all of htis talk true. actully, i find german operaq to be a bit heavy and overly structure witha over the top stiffleing bueaty. italian to be lighter and ment to be enjoyed as bueatifull alone- i feel the italian havea nack for opera. the only german i like is wagner straus ofrget it.

what I am trying to do in my posting is to excite conversation along this line german or italian opera----what is best and why

  1. im gonna have to say.....german!!!!!!!

  2. Of course opera didn't start in Italy--it actually started in France.  I love both Italian and German opera, but probably give the slight edge to German opera.  I don't agree that it stifles beauty.  First of all, if you really explore the repertory, you'll find that there are light, melodious German operas, too.  But I love Wagner, Strauss, Zemlinsky, Korngold, etc.  If you think German opera isn't beautiful, check this out:

I also love Italian composers, such as Puccini, Respighi, Alfano, Zandonai, etc.  I prefer them to Bel Canto, because I don't like so much attention to vocal display--coloratura, etc.  I like a more intense drama and integrated music.  But that's just my preference.

  3. No, the Orginal Opera is Italian! (in fact the actores sing in Italian)

We have a lot of theater even in small town where u can see plays, and the Arena in Verona is the best place to see an Opera!

  4. Well you did say you like the Italian one so go for the Italian..
