Italian player Mirco Bergamasco out for three months after surgery - Rugby News
The 28-year-old winger for Italy, Mirco Bergamasco, is likely to be ruled out from the side after having surgery to his shoulder. Bergamasco sustained a devastating blow to his shoulder while playing in a Rugby World Cup fixture, which needed a surgery.
The injured player told the journalists on October 29, that he has undergone an operation and is expecting a comeback to the side in the next three months. He participated in three games of recently played global show in New Zealand.
The player told reporters about the nature of his injury and said that, “If everything goes well, if I don't have other problems, I think that in three months, maybe three and a half, I'll be back.”
He added that, “I hope I'll be available for the start of the Six Nations and I will work for that. I hope to come back before to help out my club.”
Bergamasco made his debut with the Italian side back in 2002 and has played 73 international tests for his team. During his stay with the side he has earned 229 points for Italy and thus remained a successful player at his position. Mirco Bergamasco had
missed the fair share of rugby world cup 2003 due to injuries as well and it was second time when he missed the chance to participate in whole global show.
The winger has been also playing for various local and overseas clubs since for the past one decade. However, his team could not make a good impression in the RWC 2011.
Italy was placed in Pool C in RWC 2011, along with Ireland, Australia, United States and Russia where they failed to make a good impression in the tournament. Italy won just two matches after four outgoings and finished third on the points’ tables. They
were unable to secure a quarter-finals berth after losing both tough matches against Ireland and Wallabies.
Earlier on, Italy had an even worse show in the Six Nations championship 2011, where they finished right at the bottom of tables with just one victory in the whole tournament. They lost five out of five matches.
