  1. do different kinds of pastas in bulk buffet style.

LAsagnas, baked pastas, different sauces, and some beef for you guy.  Then do different types of salads and breads.

  3. Spaghetti is too messy. I would try a pasta you can spear with a fork, like penne. You could also do lasagne or chicken parmesan.

  4. usually italian weddings have many courses - incl an entree of pasta & then an entree of meat.

if you only want one........ what about beef with a pasta side dish OR a hearty pasta like cannelloni (stuff some with spinach & some with meat to please both meat & non-meat eaters)

  5. We had our reception at an italian restaurant and they served the following... (from their standard menu)

    Mains

    - Chicken Michelangelo (chicken breast with cheese and prosciutto covered in a rich tomato sauce)

    - Rib Fillet (cooked medium well with a mushroom sauce on top)

    - Barramundi Pistachio (what it says!  Just fish with pistachio nuts on a bed of veggies - kind of like ratatouli)

    - Vegetarian Strudel (vegies wrapped in pastry and served with a rich tomato sauce)

    Desserts

    - Meringue Tower (meringue stack with zabaglione cream and fresh fruit)

    - Zabaglione (basically a tirimisu with layers of coffee coated biscuits and cream)

    - Chocolate and Raspberry Torte (a light torte cake with raspberry coulis)

Remember that Italians don't just eat pasta - there is a wide variety of food out there that is Italian and very yummy and NOT pasta!  Though something like Lasagne will always go down well!

Is it possible to have two main meals?  Why not some pasta dish (maybe with a white sauce!) as one dish and the steaks as another?

(p.s.  I would stay away from things like spaghetti as it will always stain whatever it is you and your guests are wearing!)

  6. Nearly all weddings I attended as a kid in Italy featured either "cannelloni" (baked egg noodle rolls stuffed with meat sauce) or tortellini, or ravioli or some other kind of stuffed pasta. Spaghetti is kind of everyday meal, for weddings they always fixed something rich and unusual.

Usually wedding banquets started right after 1pm and stretched through the afternoon and in some cases into the evening, you have no idea how much energy it took to survive through them...

  7. At the last Italian wedding we went to, they served veal and yummy tortellini.
