Italians overshadow Brazil in FIVB World Cup match-up: Volleyball news
The Italians did themselves proud on November 12 in a FIVB World Cup match against the Brazilians as they were able to make a clean sweep over the world number one team. The three back to back sets that the Italians won proved that they were a
force to reckon with in the championship being played in the Japanese city of Sapporo.
The first set of the match was tough and competitive with both the squads neck to neck with each other all through the frame. However, the Italians proved to be the better side as they grabbed themselves the opening set win. The loss of the first set boosted
the morale of the Italians and they were able to capitalise on the win by bagging themselves another set but this time by a significant margin. The Brazilians tried to recover themselves in the third set but the Italians proved to be a forceful competitor
who did not let go of their dominance and secured the frame and the match at the following final set scores: 25-23, 25-16 and 25-22.
The coach of the Italian team, Massimo Barbolini, expressed his jubilation in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “I’m really happy because today we beat one of the strongest team in the world.
I think we are returning to the kind of Italy that can receive, defend, and fight for every ball. That’s important as we move on.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Brazilian side, Jose Roberto Guimaraes, shared his views in the following manner: “Congratulations to the Italian team. They played a very good match; better than us all the match, and of course they got a good result...But
when you make many mistakes against Italy its difficult to play.”
The first technical time out of the opening set saw the Brazilians take the lead at 8-5 but the Italians were able to reach a tie at 14-14. After that point, the Italians were able to stay at the top of the game and get themselves the first frame at 25-23.
The second frame went back and forth at the start but the Italians were able to get a lead at 13-6, an advantage that they were able to keep with themselves till the end of the set at 25-16. The third set got to a tie at 10-10 and both the Brazilians and
the Italians kept the game tough for each other. Eventually however, the Italians were able to get a win at 25-22.
