Italo Antonassi punishes Gonzalo Duany in Men’s Singles showdown at XXI Pan Am Junior 2012
Brazil’s Italo Antonassi remained consistent in his elevated play as he punished Peru’s Gonzalo Duany in Men’s Singles showdown at the XXI Pan Am Junior 2012 Team Event in Canada, on Tuesday, July 24.
The spirited Antonassi, who has been showing his impressive craft in all of his battles in the tournament, was quite focused and composed in his clash against Gonzalo and wrapped up a comprehensive victory in a sensational manner.
The in-form Antonassi did not face any trouble from Gonzalo in first game and easily grabbed it. He maintained his power play in the second set and ended it up in the similar fashion to emerge as the winner of the battle.
In the meanwhile, Gonzalo tried his best to match the speed of his opponent but failed to put up strong show against Antonassi and lost to him in straight games in a humiliating manner.
Antonassi utilised his lofty skills from the opening points of first game as he executed powerful smashes coupled with impressive drives which helped him to set up an early lead without any problem.
The Brazilian shuttler continued his killing run on court as he spared no chance for Gonzalo to catch up the score and took a stunning lead of 11-3 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Antonassi did not let the pace of rallies down as he took the bird quite early and targeted all loopholes of his rival to snatch the opening game with a killing margin of 21-7.
In the following set, Gonzalo tried to play different game in the opening points but failed to set up even a small lead as his Brazilian challenger was pretty much in control of the pace.
The aggressive Antonassi, on the other hand, showed his class and took an 11-4 lead until the end of first half.
After the break, Antonassi continued showing his impressive run and remained successful in taking the second game with a huge 21-7 score on the board.
Antonassi tamed Gonzalo in the Men’s Singles straight set battle in just 26 minutes with a stunning score of 21-7 and 21-7.
