Italy, Belarus and Greece secure wins on second day of CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship
The second day of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Men European qualifier matches are currently under way. The city of Bar in Montenegro is playing host to the matches.
Several matches recently took place on April 13 with the squads from Italy, Belarus and Greece earning themselves victories in the contests. The teams that found themselves on the losing ends were that of Sweden, the home team of Montenegro as well as Finland.
The first match of the day took place between Italy and Sweden but did not take a long time to determine a winner as the Italians were able to secure a victory after making a clean sweep over their opponents. The first set of the match saw both the teams
fight hard against each other with the win going to the Italians finally.
However, the second and the third sets were secured by Italy in a comfortable manner as the Swedish lost all motivation and lost the sets at 25-15 and 25-12 respectively.
The second set of the day was competed between the home team of Montenegro and their rivals from Belarus. The second match too followed the pattern of its predecessor as it ended in three sets as well.
However, the Belarus squad was able to bag the three back-to-back sets at the following final set scores: 25-14, 25-20 and 25-18.
On the other hand, the last match of the day was played between Greece as well as Finland. Following the tradition of the day, the third match also ended in a sweep after the Greece won the three frames over Finland. The first set saw the Greek players dominate
their counter parts but the Finns pulled themselves together in the second frame and gave their rivals a tough competition.
Despite the long and hard fought second set, the Finns could not muster a win as the Greeks went up by 2-0. The third set of the match stayed even throughout but as it neared the end the Greeks were able to pull up ahead and bag the match at the following
final set scores: 25-17, 27-25 and 25-21.
