  1. I did a similar trip last year.  In Venice I highly suggest Hotel Abbazia.  I can't sing their praises enough.  It's not on the canal, rather down an alley.  The staff was wonderful (my guy ended up in the hospital and they called to check on him before I even asked for a translator).  The room was small, but very well appointed.  They don't charge for anything in it either.  The only place in Italy with Internet in the room that didn't charge me.  The only place in Italy with a fully stocked fridge in Italy.  Room overlooked a beautiful garden.  The breakfast was vast and delish.  If you go there make sure you have the croissants filled with hot melted chocolate.  And oh my goodness the bathroom.  After 12 hours of transportation to Venice that bathtub was just perfect.  Somehow the water looked blue when I was in the tub.  I don't know how because it wasn't in your hand.  Incense in there and fabulous linens.

Don't worry about neighborhoods in Italy, all the cities you mentioned are so small you can get anywhere quickly.

  2. i suggest

    www.imperatoretravel.it

    eventually send them an e-mail

  3. Hotels ....hmm. I've only been to Rome, but will be going to Venice, Florence, Rome in May. I'm still planning my trip.  I found this site to be useful for hotel searching. http://www.booking.com/country/it.html?l...

You can also search by region, attraction, and it'll show you how close on the map. I like how their are pictures too.

Tip: When I rent to rome, I booked a hotel from hotel.com and it say it was close to the city center. When I got to Rome, Italy, it was really far. So, really take a look where it's located on the map, and if it's close to the attractions you want to see. When I go to Rome in May, I plan on booking a hotel between spanish steps and the fountains of Trevi because you can walk to those places from the hotel.

  4. Rome:  Anywhere on Via Vittorio Veneto.  I stayed at the Rome Marriott Grand Flora last august (191 Via Vittorio Veneto).  No complaint at all.  A bit pricey for Rome, but look on a travel site for any of the Hotels close to this address, no issues.

Florence:  I stayed at Hotel Brunelleshi www.hotelbrunelleschi.it/     It wasn't the best available, but it was certainly a good stay, nothing wrong with it, and I would return for $200 per night, including a reasonable breakfast.  It is difficult to find.  Take a taxi to it from the train station, the driver will know it.

While in Florence, book reservations for the Acadamey and Uffuzi gallery online.  You can skip a couple hour line to get in.

In Florence eat at La Giostra, it can't be beat.  http://www.ristorantelagiostra.com/   Complimentary glass of champagne, appetizer, excellent meal, desert, with bottle of wine for under 100 euro.  Don't order from the menu, just ask for recommendations.  Take it.  They will help select wine for any budget.  You will need a reservation.

If you rent a car to see Tuscany and hit the Chianti wine trail for tasting for a day, (its a real trip) go to restaurant di lamole  /www.ristorodilamole.it/   It is worth the extended effort to find it, and it is not easy.  Once you are on the winding road into the mountains, just keep going and going.  You may want to consider staying in the area.  You will find the Tuscan hospitality you only hear about.  A reservation is highly recommended, but timing your arrival will be difficult.  Do not stress driving in the Italian countryside, just let the speed demons pass you.

I took mw wife for our honeymoon last summer.  She can't stop talking about these two meals.

Been a while since Venice so no recommendations.

  5. There are so many good choices.  You may want to start looking on Venere.com or check the hotel reviews on slowtrav.com to get an idea of what's available.

  6. hi, I have a nice idea for you. visit the website www.ariannandfriends.com and you'll see there are so many places to stay that are so romantic in Tuscany (Pisa-Florence) . through this agency you ca even book a private chef only for you two! enjoy it!

  7. I went on a cruise to those places, so I can't suggest hotels, but a word of warning. The Italians are the craziest drivers I have ever seen in my life. Lots travel on scooters and dart in and out of traffic like there is no one else around, even in front of buses, especially in Florence and Rome. No problem in Venice, very few cars, it's beautiful. One other thing, don't bother buying any Morano glass unless you find a piece you can't live without. I have found many places in the states that sell it cheaper then in Italy. Go figure! Anyway, you picked a great place to go for your honeymoon. Good for you.
