Italy and Brazil win: FIBA U-19 World Championship for Women July 21 Roundup (Part 4)
Italy 74 – Egypt 56
In a Group-A game, Francesca Dotto spearheaded Italy to a 74-56 win over Egypt. Dotto chipped in with 15 points, two rebounds and two assists. During her 23 minutes stay on court, she also made three steals, shot 50 percent from the field and from the three-point range. Marta Masoni added 12 points while Irene Cigliani scored 11 points for Italy.
Hagar Amer led Egypt with a game-high 22 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and two steals. She shot 54.5 percent from the field and was the only player in the Egyptian side who made it into double-digits.
The Italians were switched on right from the very start. They carved through the Egyptians defense at will in the first quarter and sprinted to a 26-9 lead by the end of it. However, the Egyptian put up a better effort in the second period. Both teams tallied 14 points apiece in the frame, giving a 40-23 advantage to the Italians at halftime.
Team Egypt made several attempts in the second half to bring the Italian lead down, but the Europeans countered every such attempt and won the game by 18 points.
Brazil 71 – Spain 64
In the most anticipated game of the night, Brazil trounced past Spain 71-64 win in a Group-D game. Damiris Dantas and Carina Martins guided the Brazilian squad with their excellent contributions. Dantas recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Martins added 14 points on 100 percent shooting from the field along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
For Egypt, Queralt Casas tallied 16 points, grasped eight rebounds and provided three steals during her 36 minutes stay on court. She shot 50 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free throw line. Mariona Ortiz made 13 points on 66.7 percent shooting for Spain.
 The Spanish team were dominant early and snatched the first quarter 18-15. However, Brazil came back strong in the second quarter. They not only restricted Spain to 15 points during the period, but also stole the lead from them, finishing the first half, ahead by two points at 35-33.
Brazil carried the momentum into the third quarter and extended their lead into double-digit with a 23-15 spurt. By the time, the third quarter ended, Brazil were leading the way with a 58-48 advantage. They were never threatened after that.
