Italy and Denmark youths lead European Under-19 Championship Division Two: Cricket New Update
The Italian and Denmark Under-19 (U19) sides managed to earn the top spot on their respective group tables after securing an undefeated streak on the ongoing European Under-19 Championship Division Two 2011 One Day International (ODI) tournament.
The two young sides have so far taken part in 3 games apiece, securing wins in as many games. Team Italy, therefore, leads Group A points table, while Denmark heads its Group B.
The series initially kicked off on July 27, featuring 10 U19 participants divided into two groups. Italy, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Israel-c2925, Belgium and Norway make up Group B.
With the series opener taking off on July 27, Denmark took on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Belgium-c2850 youths as their first participation on the competition. The match was staged at the King William's College No 2 Ground, Castletown. The ODI took to the field with the Danish side forced
into batting by the toss winners Belgium. However, regretting their decision, Belgium was faced with a massive total of 302 runs posted by Denmark’s productive batting line up. The side retained its might as Belgium players came out to bat, but suffered some
quick blows on its batting roster. The bout finally came to a close with Denmark securing an impressive 168 runs win over Belgium.
Denmark’s next encounter came against the Norwegians on the following day. Batting first, the Danish managed to post a similar, competitive total against the opponents as from their previous match. Failing to take on the chase, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Norway-c2974’s batting line up was
finally steamrolled by the Danish bowlers, marking another impressive win with 221 runs.
On July 29, the Castletown arena once again came to life with Denmark taking on France. Offering a strong resistance to the French opening batting, the Danish bowlers once again proved their bronze, clearing up the batting side in the 34th over
after France managed to offer an easy chase for Denmark worth 78 runs. With a loss of 4 wickets, the Danish batsmen cruised into covering the mark in the 20th over, earning their third consecutive win.
As for the Italians; the team’s winning streak took off on July 27, in the opening Group A match against the German youths. Taking on a competitive chase, offered by the Italian batsmen, the German team failed to cover up the mark losing all its players.
The team was eventually defeated after the Italians secured their opening win on the competition with 171 runs.
The Italians then followed up their run after taking on Spain. However, the match came to a competitive close, after the Spanish batsmen offered a fair resistance to the Italian pacers. With just 6 runs to spare, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Italy-c2926 finally managed to earn a second, yet
crucial, win on the tournament.
In their recent bout, the side then took on Gibraltar, who after batting first, posted a disappointing chase for the Italians, losing all its players at a total of 74 runs. With ease, the Italians covered up the mark in the 10th over.
