Italy beats Egypt by 3-0 in FIVB Men’s World Cup - Volleyball news
The FIVB Men’s World Cup tournament pitted the Italian and Egyptiam squads against each othe in Kagoshima, Japan on November 21. The Italians domionated their Egyptian counterparts and took home a 3-0 win.
Despite the fact that the Egyptians lost in a sweep, they did not go down without putting up a reasonable effort and kept the Italians fighting for the win. The first set of the match started off with both the teams almost level with each other but as the
game reached its final stages the Italians showed more resilience and bagged themselves a win. The loss of the opening set of the game de-motivated the Egyptians and they lost momentum in the second set that resulted in an easy win for the Italians.
With two sets down, the Egyptians stepped up their game in the third set in order to give themselves a chance in the game but the Italians proved the stronger of the two and ended the match on their terms at the following final set scores: 25-22, 25-15 and
25-20.
The coach of the Italian team, Mauro Berruto, expressed himself in the following words after the match had come to its end: “I want to thank coach Sherif for his words; they are very important to me. It’s always wonderful to play Egypt. They are a good team,
with a very high level of fighting spirit. We are happy to win and we respect Egypt a lot. We knew it wouldn’t be easy.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Egyptian team, Elshemerly Sherif, shared his views by giving the following statements: “We didn’t play any matches, only two coming here since the African Championship. There were short period during the match that we
performed well. But in the next matches we will play better. In this match we played many good, especially in our reception.”
The player that was able to score the most points was the Egyptian Ahmed Abdelhay who kept the pressure on the Italians by putting up 13 points in all. On the other hand, the most active player on the Italian end was Alessandro Fei with a total of 12 points.
Fei was helped by Italy’s captain Cristian Savani who made his presence felt by adding a total of 11 points for his side.
The win that the Italians were able to achieve was a result of team effort and a well coordinated performance by the attack as well as the defence.
