De Sanctis stressed that while he is optimistic about Italy’s chances of going through to the semi-finals, he believes that Bonucci’s assessment betrays reality.
The Napoli goal-keeper stressed that the Azzurri have the ability to beat England in the quarter finals, but maintained that none of the teams will have it easy in the upcoming clash of the titans.
While talking to the press, the 35-year-old said:
“I don’t entirely agree with Bonucci. I am still confident, because I think this squad can beat England, but not without difficulty.”
The second-choice goalkeeper for Italy also shared his insight on Hodgson, with whom he had a brief encounter during his tenure with Udinese.
De Sanctis stated that he understands the mentality of the England coach very well, and revealed that the tactician will leave no stones unturned in preparing for the game.
However, the Napoli keeper stressed that keeping in view the former Fulham manager’s mentality; his efforts will be largely focussed on the Three Lions’ defence.
The second-choice goalkeeper to Gigi Buffon hailed the English team’s temperament and physical strength, and stressed that the Italians will need to outclass their opponents in technical ability in order to win the game.

“The English have temperament and physical strength. We can combat them with an intelligent and reasoned game. It means we have to develop a highly-technical performance that can avoid their aggression.”
Hodgson served as the manager of Udinese in brief spell that lasted for half a season in 2001-02.
