  1. Italy is reasonable to live and dine but you have to keep a check on menu pricing, eating outside is more expensive.

Also near to places of interest can be costly, learnt the hard way paying £60 for 4 coffees and 4 slices of apple tart !!!

Go to travel shops for tours, been there 5 times so cant be that bad

I found it reasonable compared to Ireland so you should find it even cheaper,

    Enjoy

  2. As some of the others have said the Amalfi coast is quite expensive as its a tourist area. I would recommend for a two week stay at least 50euro a day. I suppose you won't be taking trips out everyday so some days you will spend more others less. I would recommend eating out only once a day. Probably in the evening, you willl find most restaurants offer a 'menu turistico' (tourists menu) usually from around 15euro's for a 3 course meal. You haven't said where you be based but i presume you will be seeing Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Capri etc. Have a look at www.capritourism.com for boat trips etc. Also take a look at

    www.amalficoastweb.com

    www.amalficoast.com

    These may help.

A tip if you are going out on day trips or at lunch just want a sandwich its worth going into small supermarket which make up sandwiches (Panini's). This is cheaper than going to a cafe or restaurant and you can also buy your drinks there. I would say if you are going to be going to the beach, don't pay for an umbrella and chair it could cost you up to 50euro's for one day. I would by an beach umbrella and use that they are cheap enough. Two weeks is quite a lot. Have you thought about taking a day trip out to Pompei or even Rome? Have a look on www.trenitalia.it for train times etc.

I can't give you exact prices of things but would definately recommend at least 50euro a day and then when you get there book your day trips etc, so you know how much you have to spend.

Tip: if you order drinks in bar's or cafès they are usually brought out by waiters and service will be added so it bumps up the price. be prepared to pay about 10euros for a coffee and 15 for a beer. (not everywhere of course but beware!!)

  3. ma guarda dove sei stata...

  4. Amalfi coast is quite expensive because is for rich people but Italy generally is less expensive then UK.

  5. I recall a huge gulf in italy from one street to the next. I think they hike prices in the touristy areas and the rest is relatively affordable. So if you want to save money do your buying off the beaten track.

  6. In Italy you can pay less than the U.K. for food and accommodation but it's important to ask and understand what the price is before you accept. It's already been pointed out about the bar's sitting service charge so to be sure order and pay at the bar then ask if it's o.k. to sit down. Like Harry you can be clobbered when you least expect it.

On Capri I saw the prices on the market change, i.e. in the morning the same goods were cheaper than the afternoon. When I asked I was told that the English with little money came a.m. and the richer Germans and Americans p.m.

The larger supermarkets are best when buying food because you have time to look and compare prices.  Eat where they have a tourist fixed price menu and always check wine/beer AND soft drink prices because they can cost more than the food.

Most situations are no problem but if they say Si Si No problema!  Check it out to be on the safe side.

I am sure you will have a wonderful time!

  7. is more expensive than uk
