Italy defeat France 3-0: 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League – Volleyball news
Italy’s mens volleyball team won on Sunday as it handed out a defeat to France during a fixture of the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League that has generated a huge following so far. With their recent victory, it has become the second time that Italy was able
to pull off a win in the league matches. This time around, Italy did so by making a clean sweep over France.
Despite the fact that France went down without winning a single set, they did so after putting up a commendable fight. Only the first set of the match was easily taken by Italy, after that, the score in the second as well as the third was kept close. This
is shown by the following set scores that were being displayed at the end of the match: 25-15, 25-23 and 27-25. Italy has now placed itself on the top of Pool D by winning against the raised odds of playing in France’s home ground.
Spurred on by the home crowd, France came out strong in the first set of the game. They were able to assert their dominance by playing a well coordinated game. Both the attack as well as the defense of France was working well to create obstacles in the way
of Italy’s progress. The serving and reception were perfect and the French seemed to be cruising. However, France lost its flow as it starting making errors which resulted in Italy taking the lead. Once Italy had a dominating position, they never looked back
and pushed past in order to bag the first set of the game at 25-15.
Losing the first set of the game forced France to rethink their approach and come up with a new way of dealing with the Italians. This led France to bring Guillaume Samica into the game. Samica had the right effect of bringing energy into the team which
visibly showed in the more motivated French efforts. However, the Italians had come fully prepared for any kind of challenge and they did not let Samica shake their confidence. Despite the fact that the French were now putting up a fight, the Italians managed
to gain the lead during the middle of the set. After the match went back and forth for a while, it eventually swung in favor of the Italians who bagged it at 25-23.
After winning the first two sets of the game, Italy capitalised on their momentum and also won the third set at 27-25.
Next in line for the Italians is a match against Cuba. Italy will be relishing the advantage of hosting the match. On the other side, France is up against Korea.
